Tighten & Rejuvenate Skin – Scar Treatment
A Micro-needling treatment also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling makes fractional micro-wounds in the skin to stimulate healthy growth of new tissue without trauma. Following this treatment, your body will stimulate collagen production to tighten, lift and rejuvenate the skin as well as reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Microneedling also helps to minimize pores, stretch marks, and scarring, such as keloid and surgical and acne scars. Most patients see results within just 6 to 8 days after their treatments, and these will continue to improve as your skin generates new cells.
What does a Microneedling treatment feel like?
Most of our patients describe feeling a mild pin-prick sensation during treatment, which typically lasts about 20 minutes. Depending on the depth of treatment, a topical anesthesia may be applied to ensure your comfort.
How many treatments will I need?
A series of 4-6 treatments every 4-6 weeks is necessary for optimal results, to allow proper recovery and to avoid over-stimulation. Once you see your desired results, just 1 or 2 treatments per year are recommended for maintenance.
What can I expect after treatment?
There is typically no downtime after Microneedling treatment, although you should keep your skin protected from sun for the next 10 days or so. You may notice some initial redness, tightness or dry skin at first, but this will subside within a few days after treatment. You’ll be able to resume you normal skin care regimen after about 2 to 3 days. Results May Vary*
Microneedling vs. Laser Treatments
As you can see, Microneedling and fractional laser resurfacing treatments both work towards similar goals and can treat similar skin imperfections. Additionally both work by creating microscopic holes in the skin’s surface to encourage new collagen production and allow clearer, smoother skin to heal. Microneedling can be chosen for a number of reasons:
- Microneedling is safe for darker-skinned patients. Microneedling does not rely on the skin’s pigment to heat the tissues, and there have been no reports of post-treatment hyperpigmentation.
- Microneedling can be used safely on small areas (i.e. around the nose or eyes) of the face and body, and is one of few treatments that can noticeably improve the appearance of stretch marks.
