Introduction To Male Liposuction
The number of male patients seeking cosmetic surgery procedures has grown exponentially over the past 5 years. This surge in male acceptance of cosmetic surgery as an effective means to enhance body image is due in large part to the convenience, safety and physical rewards. There are multiple cosmetic surgery procedures available to men today, to improve the look and feel of your body. Liposuction has become the procedure of choice for men, due in large part to its versatility. In other words, liposuction is a fantastic way to sculpt different regions of the body. Areas that respond well to liposuction treatment in men include: the chest, abdomen, waist, upper back, arms, legs and chin.

Male Liposuction Procedure Overview
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure which serves to remove fat deposits from underneath the skin using a long stainless steel tube with the aid of a vacuum. Liposuction reshapes parts of the body that are rich in fatty deposits as a means to achieve improved contours and an enhanced self-image. In the article entitled “The Myth: I Exercise Therefore I Don’t Need Liposuction” Dr. Ditesheim explains how fat deposits can be resistant to both diet and exercise.
Dr. Ditesheim’s Approach to Male Liposuction
Dr. Ditesheim performs the Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL), whereby a small tube, called a “cannula”, is inserted through tiny incisions in the skin. Once the incisions have been made, a sterile liquid solution is inserted in order to reduce bleeding. Next, the cannula is guided through the incisions and around the targeted area in order to break up and remove fat cells and deposits. Finally, a vacuum is used to remove the dislocated fat. During the power-assisted liposuction procedure, this vibrating cannula makes for easier removal of fat deposits. Dr. Ditesheim prefers the power assisted liposuction technique because the enhanced control of the cannula allows him to be much more thorough and precise in the extraction of the fatty deposits.

Dr. Ditesheim and his dedicated staff will provide you with pre-surgical materials that include vital guidelines about drinking, smoking and avoiding certain vitamins and medications. At Ditesheim Cosmetic Surgery, we have a wealth of knowledge and experience in preparing our patients and their families for the recovery process and ensuring a predictably smooth outcome.
Male Liposuction Surgery
The duration of a typical liposuction procedure usually lasts between thirty minutes and three hours, always depending on the number of areas to be treated, as well as the magnitude of the fatty deposits to be removed. Liposuction surgery is usually done as an outpatient, under intravenous sedation and local anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Liposuction procedures may be performed in a partner hospital near the office, or our own AAASF (American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities) accredited surgical suite. Our surgical facilities are built and run by strict standards, to ensure the highest level of safety and comfort.

After your surgery is completed, you will be fitted into a compression garment to reduce any signs of swelling and to ensure optimum results for your newly contoured body. In the event that there is any discomfort, Dr. Ditesheim will prescribe medications to help you with pain management. Bruising is a common side-effect of liposuction and should subside within a couple weeks, but may take longer depending upon the individual. One of the more popular benefits of liposuction is the recovery time associated with it. Most of our liposuction patients resume normal activities after three or four days of adequate rest and relaxation. However, we strongly urge you to not participate in vigorous activities for at least a few weeks. Our experienced staff will supply you with proven postoperative guidelines which will furnish you with helpful instructions for the most comfortable and successful healing.
At Ditesheim Cosmetic Surgery we make sure that your surgical experience and recovery is as pleasant and predictable as possible.
