Male Rhinoplasty Surgery Overview

A rhinoplasty (male nose job) is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to improve the function and appearance of a person’s nose. The modern approach to nasal surgery includes two new concepts:The first is the recognition that the addition of tissue such as a cartilage graft can often improve contour and breathing. These grafting techniques can be more effective and appear more natural than removing tissue alone. It is sometimes more predictable, for example, to improve the profile by building up a low nasal bridge rather than trying to reduce the forward projection of the nasal tip. Conversely, in patients where the forward projection of the tip is inadequate, adding cartilage will yield a more natural profile than trying to reduce the bridge. Most rhinoplasty (male nose job) procedures today entail a combination of tissue removal and tissue addition in order to produce the best result.
The second concept is the “open” rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery method. A small incision is placed in the skin under the nose between the nostrils, allowing the surgeon to “open” the nose and view its entire internal structure. This allows for great precision in making internal changes, which affect external appearance. Patients who have had previous nasal surgery with a poor result usually require both cartilage grafts and an “open” rhinoplasty in order to correct the deformities.

Male Rhinoplasty Surgery

Nasal procedures (rhinoplasty) are tailored to the individual facial structures and your personal goals. This creates differences in rhinoplasty surgery times to range from 2 – 5 hours. The cosmetic surgery procedure is usually done as an outpatient, under general anesthesia administered by a physician anesthesiologist to minimize discomfort during the procedure. The rhinoplasty procedure may be performed in a partner hospital near Ditesheim Cosmetic Surgery or in our own AAASF (American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities) accredited surgical suite. Our surgical facilities are built and run by strict standards, to ensure the highest level of safety and comfort.

Male Rhinoplasty Surgery Recovery

Once your rhinoplasty surgery is complete, your nose will be bandaged and splinted in order to minimize swelling and bruising. The dressing may include nasal packing, which should be removed within a couple of days. All sutures and/or staples, splints, and bandages are usually removed within five to ten days.

During the first twenty-four hours following your rhinoplasty surgery, your face will be puffy, your nose may ache, and you may have a dull headache. You may notice increased swelling and bruising over the course of a few days following your cosmetic surgery procedure. Applying cold compresses will aid in the reduction of swelling and with the discomfort. Most of the swelling and bruising should subside within two to three weeks. There may be slight swelling for months to follow, but it will only be noticeable by you and the doctor. Dr. Ditesheim will schedule frequent follow-up visits in the months following your male nasal cosmetic procedure to check on your healing progress. Our warm and courteous staff is available to discuss your concerns and to remind you that your nose will look just as you have planned with Dr. Ditesheim and, as a result, your spirits will improve. Our compassionate and professional staff is emotionally supportive to help you handle any reaction to rhinoplasty surgery that you may experience.
