Breast Lift Overview
A Breast Lift or Mastopexy is a surgical procedure to reshape the breasts. After pregnancy or weight loss, the breasts can appear deflated, sagging or without shape. A breast lift procedure restores the natural round breast shape by 1. repositioning the nipple higher on the breast (without detaching the nipple), 2. trimming stretched skin or 3. removing breast tissue falling below the breast crease.
- If the breast has lost volume, an breast implant (saline or silicone breast implant), may be placed under the breast or under the chest muscle: Augmentation Mastopexy.
- The goal is always to restore the upper breast fullness and natural midline curves so there is restoration of breast cleavage.

How do you know if you need a breast lift, a breast implant or both?
Simply, pose the following questions: Are you happy with your breast cup size? Are you happy with the breast shape? If you are comfortable in your bra (providing it is not a padded or push-up bra, a breast lift can improve the breast shape. If the breasts are deflated, lost significant breast volume after pregnancy or weight loss, then an breast implant (saline or silicone breast implant) alone or an implant and a breast lift may be the answer.
What does a breast lift cost?
There are three critical factors that effect cost:
- How much breast shaping will be needed?
- Will an breast implant be needed?
- Is there significant breast asymmetry?
Total costs including professional anesthesia care (MD), credentialed, accredited surgical facility (OR and Recovery) and surgical fees (all professional care) will range from: $5000-$10,000.
What is the recovery like after a mastopexy (breast lift) or augmentation mastopexy (breast lift with implant)?
Plan on a 3-5 day recovery for reshaping (mastopexy) alone. There is minimal pain, bruising and swelling from shaping the breasts. You will be able to wear a bra immediately and return to all regular activities. Strenuous activities can be resumed within 2-3 weeks. Recovery for an augmentation mastopexy (breast lift with implant) is slightly longer. There is often slightly more swelling, but still very little bruising or pain. Plan on a week to resume regular activities like driving and work, but somewhat longer, 4-6weeks for strenuous activities, especially exercise that requires upper body or chest muscles.
