Breast Reduction Overview
If you have discomfort from having large breasts or feel your breasts are too heavy or sagging, a breast reduction procedure can help you feel better immediately. This cosmetic surgery procedure removes the hanging breast tissue, usually the area of breast that hangs below the nipple. At the same time, any extra skin is removed and the nipple repositioned to create a more natural breast shape.

- What’s new is the ability to correct this discomfort and reshape the breast with minimal scar.
- Cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Ditesheim, has used the Minimal Scar technique (also referred to as Vertical Breast Reduction) exclusively since 2003 for hundreds of women.
- This breast reduction technique reshapes rather than simply reduces the breast, the new breast shape continues to look natural over time.
Breast Reduction FAQ's
Where is the breast reduction procedure performed?
In our private (AAAASF) certified operating facility you will have the privacy, comfort and safety of two highly experienced nurses and two doctors at all times. You will fall into a deep sleep for about 2-3 hours while the cosmetic surgery procedure is performed. At all times you will be in the hands of an experienced doctor specialized in anesthesia for cosmetic surgery
What is recovery after a breast reduction like?
You will wake up once the plastic surgery procedure is completed and may feel a little sleepy for a few hours. You will rest, pain free in our recovery suite for about 50 minutes. We will guide you through the expected recovery period, which is usually 7 days. There are no restrictions. Shower in the morning is encouraged. Usually return to work in 5-10 days.
Do breast reduction results last over time, do the breasts continue to look pretty?
Unlike other techniques where the breast shape can change over time, the Minimal Scar technique permanently reshapes the breast and that shape holds over many years. There is no “bottoming out” ( where the lower breast hangs lower and the nipple to the ceiling).
How is Dr. Ditesheim’s approach different?
“I felt like Dr. Ditesheim really listened to my concerns and frustrations and guided me to the procedure that would give me the best possible outcome… It was obvious he wanted to know what I wanted, rather than trying to convince me what my ideal body should look like."
What is the cost of breast reduction?
While there is no doubt that large, heavy breasts create a “disability”, how this is interpreted by health care insurance companies is very variable. The total cost for the procedure (which includes the cosmetic surgeon, the anesthesiologist and the operating room) ranges from $8000-$10,000 depending on the complexity of the breast reduction procedure.

There is no “bottoming out” ( where the lower breast hangs lower and the nipple to the ceiling). This series compares the before, early result (at 1 month) and the same patient at 7 years. Note how the scars are almost invisible.
