Nose Reshaping in Charlotte – Rhinoplasty

A beautifully shaped, proportional nose rarely gets noticed, but it can make all the difference in bringing out your natural beauty. How? By helping to achieve facial harmony.

What do we mean by facial harmony? When your facial features are in balance and complement one another, that is facial harmony. Nasal surgery, or rhinoplasty, is one of the most common procedures to achieve facial harmony, and when approached with a personalized vision and current techniques, rhinoplasty offers highly satisfying results.

Is nose reshaping surgery right for me?

Whether you are unhappy with the proportion, angle, tip or other specific features of your nose, or you have experienced changes due to injuries, nasal surgery can address what you wish to improve and allow you to put a naturally beautiful, proportionate face forward. If any of the following describe you, we encourage you to come in for a consultation to discuss your options for nose reshaping:

• You feel like your nose is out of proportion with the rest of your face.
• You have difficulty breathing, due to a previous trauma to the face.
• You are in good physical health and have realistic expectations.
• You are a non-smoker or are willing to quit smoking well in advance of the scheduled procedure.

Rhinoplasty Surgery Overview

A rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure designed to improve the function and appearance of a person’s nose. The modern approach to nasal surgery incorporates advanced techniques based upon two developments:

1. Recognition that the addition of tissue such as a cartilage graft can often improve contour and breathing.

These grafting techniques can be more effective and appear more natural than removing tissue alone. It is sometimes more predictable, for example, to improve the profile by building up a low nasal bridge rather than trying to reduce the forward projection of the nasal tip.

Conversely, in patients where the forward projection of the tip is inadequate, adding cartilage will yield a more natural profile than trying to reduce the bridge. Most rhinoplasty procedures today entail a combination of tissue removal and tissue addition in order to produce the best result.

2. Introduction of the “open” rhinoplasty method.

A small incision is placed in the skin under the nose between the nostrils, allowing the plastic surgeon to “open” the nose and view its entire internal structure. This allows for great precision in making internal changes, which affect external appearance. Patients who have had previous nasal surgery with a poor result usually require both cartilage grafts and an “open” rhinoplasty in order to correct the deformities.

What is involved in nose reshaping surgery?

Nasal procedures are tailored to the individual facial structures and your personal goals. This creates differences in rhinoplasty surgery times to range from 2 to 5 hours. The cosmetic surgery procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis, with the patient under general anesthesia administered by a board-certified physician anesthesiologist to ensure the highest level of safety.

Your procedure may be performed in a partner hospital near Ditesheim Cosmetic Surgery or in our on-site AAAASF (American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities) accredited surgical suite for your comfort and privacy.

About your recovery from rhinoplasty

Once your rhinoplasty surgery is complete, your nose will be bandaged and splinted in order to minimize swelling and bruising. The dressing may include nasal packing, which should be removed within a couple of days. All sutures and/or staples, splints, and bandages are usually removed within five to ten days.

During the first twenty-four hours following your surgery, your face will be puffy, your nose may ache, and you may have a dull headache. You may notice increased swelling and bruising over the next few days following your cosmetic surgery procedure; this is normal. Applying cold compresses will aid in the reduction of swelling and with the discomfort.

Most of the swelling and bruising should subside within 2 to 3 weeks. There may be slight swelling for months to follow, but it will only be noticeable by you and Dr. Ditesheim. Our office will schedule frequent follow-up visits in the months following your procedure to check on your healing progress. Our warm and courteous staff is available to discuss your concerns and answer any questions you may have. They’re great at providing emotional support to help you throughout your cosmetic surgery experience.
