Acne Treatment

Acne is a complex condition, with many different types and causes for acne. Just as there are several types of acne, there are various options available to treat the condition and prevent future breakouts.

Blackheads

Blackheads are commonly caused by an over-production of sebum or oils. When the pore is open, oxygen will create a small layer of oxidized oil within the hair follicle, turning the top of the pore black. This gives blackheads their name and darkened appearance. Blackheads are especially common among teens and often found in the nose and forehead areas.

Blackhead Treatment

Our medical esthetician will first cleanse the skin and exfoliate. If necessary, manual extractions can be performed using a tool to open up the pores and remove oil and debris. Extractions may sound intimidating or painful, but the treatment is completely painless and simple.  A mask in the treatment area can be used to further treat the skin. Finally, moisturizer and SPF are applied to the skin.

Following this facial, your esthetician will advise a daily regimen with appropriate products to keep the skin clear, including suitable cleansers and at-home exfoliation to prevent future blackheads from forming.

Acne Simplex / Closed Comedone

Occasional acne, breakout-prone skin, or sensitivity may be caused by a variety of factors. Your esthetician will first work to understand what is causing your breakouts, which may be anything from over-production of oils and sebum clogging the hair follicles, sensitivity to topical products or makeup, or lifestyle habits including a poor diet. Closed comedones are also referred to as “whiteheads” and occur most often on the forehead, chin, or cheeks.

Acne Simplex / Closed Comedone Treatment

A traditional facial including cleansing, exfoliation, and extraction is an excellent treatment option for acne simplex/closed comedones. Your esthetician will follow extractions with masks and moisturizers selected for your skin type. Following treatment, it can take several days for acne to completely subside and heal due to bacteria present in the pores. Our esthetician will also recommend a suitable at-home routine to maintain clear skin.

Hormonal Acne / Acne Vulgaris

Acne can often be related to hormonal fluctuation. Acne vulgaris refers to acne where inflammation or bacterial lesions are present and can include cystic or nodular acne.

Hormonal Acne and Acne Vulgaris treatment

The treatment for hormonal acne or acne vulgaris involves loosening the top layer of skin and opening the pores, which allows treatment products to penetrate more effectively. Ingredients for this process may include salicylic acid, resorcinol, sulfur, or benzoyl peroxide. Extractions are typically performed to remove debris from the pores, and chemical peels can be effective. While today’s chemical peels are very comfortable, patients may require 5-10 days of downtime following this treatment. If acne is severe, repeated facial treatments about every two weeks can be helpful. Our esthetician will also recommend at-home products and regimens to keep the skin clear and healthy.

Botox

Botox is perhaps the most well-known injectable product which effectively creates a smoother and more youthful appearance. Botox can be used to reduce wrinkles around the eyes or through the forehead that are caused by repeated facial expressions.

Facial Fillers

Facial fillers include products like Juvederm, Restylane, or Radiesse. These are used to create a more youthful look by restoring lost volume or to non-surgically augment areas including the lips, chin, or cheeks.

Clear + Brilliant

Clear + Brilliant is a laser treatment option that is very useful for a variety of skin concerns thanks to advanced technology. It can be adapted for a range of uses including melasma, enlarged pores, and various tone or texture issues.

Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels are available in a variety of formulas to resurface the skin no matter your skin type or concerns. Chemical peels are a great non-surgical option for aging signs like fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation issues like sunspots or rosacea, and texture issues like acne scars.

Microneedling

Professional microneedling treatments use a dermapen to create microchannels in the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing process. This results in improved elasticity and an overall younger, illuminated look.

Zo Medical

Developed by dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi, ZO® Medical are based on the latest advances in skin therapy technology: biotechnology complexes, plant stem cell components, and multi-therapy delivery systems.

ICON Laser

The ICON laser uses unique technology to adapt to multiple skin types and tones, making it a safe and effective laser treatment option for all patients. ICON laser can be used for several purposes ranging from rosacea treatment to laser hair removal.

Medical Grade Skincare Products

Do you know why some skincare products are only available at a doctor’s office?

Because the active ingredients in them are more potent.

This means they do their job: reducing fine lines, erasing age spots, and improving skin tone and texture—a lot more quickly and effectively than over the counter options. We’ll be happy to discuss any of the options below at a personal consultation.

ZO Medical Skincare

Developed by dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi, ZO Medical contains a full spectrum of therapeutic skincare designed to treat difficult skin conditions. These products are only available from a physician through an authorized medical practice, and we’re proud to be on that list.

Facials

Each of our facials is developed by our Licensed Medical Esthetician Wendy DeGiacomo and specialized for common skin concerns at any age. Our professional facial treatments are an excellent way to thoroughly cleanse and nourish the skin, addressing common issues such as acne, fine lines, signs of aging, or dullness and uneven texture. During a consultation, Wendy can help choose the best facial option for you.
