Secondary Breast Augmentation
While the most common reason for secondary breast augmentation tends to be a desire for size change, breast implant revision surgery can also correct a number of problems with existing breast implants, including the following:
- Existing breast implants are asymmetrical or malpositioned (in an unnatural position)
- The breast implants may be too large (and may have always been too large after the first breast augmentation surgery)
- The breasts may have changed shape or size after pregnancy or weight loss
- The breast implants have ruptured or deflated
- Scar tissue has hardened around the implant, a condition known as capsular contracture
Secondary breast augmentation procedures to correct these situations usually involve removing the breast implants, changing the breast implants for a different size or shape, and sometimes reshaping the breast to create a more beautiful, natural shape.
